The SamTrans Board of Directors was presented with the latest recommendations of the Dumbarton Transportation Corridor study. The released draft recommendations will hopefully resolve traffic congestion and create new alternatives along Dumbarton Corridor. To address improvement and transit service needs between Alameda, Santa Clara, and San Mateo counties. The recommendations from therein study reviewed many alternative transportation ways and means of support to avoid traffic congestion in the Bay Area.

The Palo Alto Transit Center will be temporarily closed starting Monday, August 7, 2017 through Friday, September 22, 2017. The transit center is scheduled to close because of the City of Palo Alto construction project and VTA (Valley Transportation Authority) will have alternative pickup/dropoff temporary locations. The VTA administration will have an eastbound bus stop on El Camino Real in front of the P.F. Chang restaurant on Quarry Road intersection. All passengers transferring from buses to Caltrain will have to walk across El Camino Real roadway towards the Caltrain platform.

The boat was sinking in San Francisco Bay Area near Alcatraz Island and the tour ferry rescued 10 passengers last night. The Bay Area Coast Guard received an emergency dispatch call from the sinking boat for rescue, and the tour ferry within the location was called to action. It was reported the sinking vessel struck a rock nearby the former prison named Alcatraz and started sinking underwater. The Alcatraz Clipper ferry boat was redirected to rescue passengers from the sinking boat, and passengers were rescued without injuries in San Francisco Bay.

The GGBHTD (Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District) issued public information for traffic improvement on iconic Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge traffic will be limited to personal cars from northern and southern parking lots of the bridge including Vista Point parking lot. The traffic improvement effort will begin during all weekends in August as well as Labor Day weekend between 11 AM and 5 PM. This project is expected to mitigate traffic backups during busy weekends with many visitors along with limited parking spaces.

The Clipper Cards used by commuting passengers for local transportation in San Francisco Bay Area just received an extension usage as needed. The MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) administration extended the continuation of services with Cubic Corporation, that provides CTS (Cubic Transportation Systems) to operate and maintain services for Clipper Cards. Because MTC is the transportation planning agency within nine Bay Area regional locations, and Clipper Cards have been working well for transit commuting passengers - 93% satisfied customers.

The new plans for Market Street in San Francisco will take away cars from driving downtown the iconic street and adding more bike lanes. The remake of Market Street including redesigning sidewalks will cost approximately $604 million and eliminating all cars as well as Uber and Lyft cars. The new Market Street improvement project is a collaboration of various city agencies along with Transportation and Design Team. Including an Environmental Review Team to be compliance with environmental regulated policies and consistent with local safety measures.

The latest audit report by San Francisco City Controller's Office identifies interesting findings for iconic cable car operations. The report findings discovered muni cable car operators are lacking to collect up to 37% cash fares during their operating time. This report finding was part of an undercover sting regarding iconic cable car operators and how they collect cash fares. The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) administration is looking into working closely with City Controller's Office regarding this matter.

The VTA (Valley Transportation Authority) completed a new Caltrain tunnel in South Bay to make it easier for pedestrians and bicyclists. The tunnel project costing amount is $12 million and allowing pedestrians to walk from Santa Clara Caltrain station to Avaya Stadium for San Jose Earthquake soccer games. It also gives bicyclists and pedestrians a safe and easy pathway to the other side of Caltrain tracks. The tunnel connects Brokaw Road and Coleman Avenue to Caltrain and other transit public transportation.

The SFO (San Francisco International Airport) new flight pathways maybe changing the SFO arrivals and departures for airplanes. Including other San Francisco Bay Area commercial airports to help minimize and/or alleviate loud airplane noise within Bay Area local neighborhoods. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is considering various new flight pathways for possible solutions and reducing loud airplane noise. The local advocacy group called Sky Posse Palo Alto has been working closely with local legislatures to ensure loud airplane noise is resolved.

A new bicycle station is now open in the South Bay of San Francisco Bay Area regional location at the corner of Alameda and West Julian Street. The Ford GoBike stations are opening and operating within the Bay Area regional areas along with other bike stations in San Jose. Approximately 1,000 bicycles will be added during next year and extending bike sharing locations throughout the South Bay. The biking project includes other bike locations within cities of San Francisco, Berkeley, Oakland, and Emeryville.
