The MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) has been testing cameras on undisclosed highway locations to catch carpool lane cheaters on local highways. The MTC administration is hoping therein cameras will catch many carpool lane cheaters, and it may help ease some traffic congestion in San Francisco Bay Area. The highway cameras can record and count people in each vehicle traveling on carpool lanes because it requires two people. The CHP (California Highway Patrol) officers have issued 64,000 tickets for carpool lane cheaters in 2016 and increased from 39,600 in 1010.

The VTA (Valley Transportation Authority) board finally approved therein single-bore methodology for the Silicon Valley transit extension project. The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Phase-II extension project will use the single-bore and not twin-bore for BART tunnels in Silicon Valley. The local downtown business communities in San Jose and South Bay highly recommends therein single-bore tunneling method. Because it's less disruptive with ongoing construction for the VTA and BART partnership extension project.

The SamTrans transit agency Board of Directors approved a mobility app for customer services enhancement and trip planning for passengers. The SamTrans agency provides transit services for San Mateo County and therein mobility app will provide technical support for customer experience. The SamTrans board awarded Bytemark Inc. of Seattle, Washington for therein mobility app solution at a cost of $478,000 for two years contract. The mobility app will provide passengers with arrival and/or departure transit bus times and ridership tickets.

The VTA (Valley Transportation Authority) and BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) partnership agencies agreed to propose the single bore methodology for the BART extension project tunnel in downtown San Jose. The VTA and BART partnership project staffing will present therein single bore recommendation for the BART tunnel to each agency Board of Directors. The two transit agencies have been working closely to have in place a bore tunnel that is fully safe for passengers.

The SamTrans transit agency serving San Mateo County is purchasing 10 new electric buses along with 25 hybrid buses to reduce fleet emissions. The SamTrans Board of Directors awarded $9.2 million contract to Proterra Inc. in Burlingame, California for therein transit project. The transit agency improvement project funding is by partnership agencies from local, state, and federal funds. The new buses will replace overused and outdated diesel buses and to provide ongoing reliable services for passengers.

The WETA (Water Emergency Transportation Authority) ferry services report identifies 94% ridership increase for passengers taking San Francisco Bay Ferry services in the Bay Area. The WETA status report shows ridership increase since 2012 and demand for ferry services along four transporting routes. The WETA visionary strategy is having 44 fleet vessels, 16 ferry terminals, and 12 service routes for passengers in San Francisco Bay Area.

A driver was killed recently while driving the Tesla Model X autonomous car within San Francisco Bay Area in Mountain View, California. The car accident happened along Highway-85 and Highway-101 interchange in the Bay Area that killed driver Walter Huang, and Apple Engineer. The Tesla auto company is defending their autonomous car autopilot system, and Caltrans is also defending the highway safety barrier where the car crash happened. The Tesla spokesperson identified a concern has been raised about the car navigation system and not the autopilot performance.

The Uber company self-driving cars for autonomous testing has been terminated within San Francisco Bay Area and statewide California. The Uber company is halting their self-driving car testing on California public roads and has decided not to renew their permit expiring Saturday. The ride-hailing company decided to stop their robotic autonomous car testing in California, Arizona, Pittsburgh, and Toronto. The Uber company have to get a new operational permit and addressing investigation into the crash in Arizona that killed a pedestrian.

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) reports showing increase with electronic devices thefts during 2017 last year - 52% increase. The items for thieves to steal is mobile phones and other electronic devices, and involving forceful behaviors considered to become violent crimes. The BART agency is reportedly using multiple surveillance cameras with high-quality results to identify thieves. Although, BART's increase with thefts of passengers electronic devices, BART auto theft is decreased by 13% and bike thefts decreased by 18%.

The CHP (California Highway Patrol) reported a tour bus driver was driving drunk transporting passengers to a local casino in North Bay within San Francisco Bay Area. The tour bus arrived at Graton Casino without any injuries and the driver Angela Teasley was arrested for driving impaired. The passengers were afraid and hoping they will make it safe because the driver was swaying off the road and hitting the bridge guardrail. The passengers called 911 to report the unsafe situation and CHP interviewed passengers, and driver was almost 4 times over the legal alcohol limit.
