The historical and crooked iconic Lombard Street in San Francisco is considering a toll system for visitors. The local legislatures are advocating for a study to possibly start charging people to take a stroll down the world's mostly crooked street. The local authority agencies are working closely with legislatures to study how the toll system would work for tourists and local residents. Because local residents are sharing their concerns about health issues with emission fumes from cars and ongoing traffic problems.

The state legislatures are well aware of long-term needs for road repairs, transportation improvement projects, etc. because of backlog on state transportation projects - $59 billion to upgrade state highways alone. The local motorist commuters are paying the price because of poor road conditions and local streets people use everyday to travel in San Francisco Bay Area. The California Department of Transportation report shows local streets and roadway repairing is even bigger with a backlog of $73 billion for upgrades.

The muni buses in San Francisco will be equipped with new communication systems for monitoring aspects during everyday activities. The new radio communication system will move muni buses from analog to digital networking, and allowing drivers to communicate with department staffing effectively. The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) board received a presentation from administrators and demonstrated how the system works. The SFMTA transit agency is replacing the outdated system with new communication systems for operation efficiency.

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors adopted a new city ordinance requiring new developments to have more alternative transporting perks. It's an approach to have a data-driven model for cities struggling from traffic congestion on local highways and roadways. The new legislation was initially approved and proposed by Land Use and Transportation Committee with the final approval by Board of Supervisors. It requires commercial and residential development projects to have transportation features such as accessible parking, bike stations, shuttle locations, etc.

The local residents in San Francisco approved $500 million for muni improvement projects and Board of Supervisors sharing their concerns. The local voters ratified therein bond funding to help SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) with projects to improve traffic problems. Some members of San Francisco Board of Supervisors shared their concerns about not spending appropriated funding for local improvement projects fast enough. Because local San Francisco voters approved the bond funding to help with traffic congestion in San Francisco and the Bay Area.

The latest on Uber self-driving vehicles in California continues with more questionable issues including self-driving trucks for safety reasoning. The Uber company bought trucks from Otto for $68 million in August 2016, and the trucks are suppose to have self-driving operating systems. Remember, Uber was testing their self-driving vehicles in San Francisco during last year in December without permits - they moved to Arizona. The California DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) is investigating Uber self-driving trucks through a startup by Otto thereafter a transaction.

The HSR (High Speed Rail) Authority is proposing for federal funding assistance through California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) as needed to complete HSR project and Caltrain electrification. The California 14 Republicans in Congress is asking new federal Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, to block $647 million grant for Caltrain. The request was made through the National Governor's Association and using infrastructure projects to create more jobs in California. The federal funding will help with Caltrain's electrification and may also help the HSR project.

The Caltrans working crew along Highway 17 this morning was impacted by the bad weather conditions in San Francisco Bay Area. The working crew members were repairing the highway because of a mudslide in Santa Cruz mountains, and two crew members were run-over by a dump truck. Unfortunately, one died during the accident around 12:15 PM during afternoon hours, and workers flagged down CHP (California Highway Patrol) for assistance. The officers were able to retrieve the other Caltrans repair crew member from underneath the dump truck for safety.

The Google Waze app is open for carpooling as a pilot project within San Francisco Bay Area nine municipal counties. The company started the project with a select carpooling group in San Francisco and Mountain View - Waze was founded. The company mentioned using the Waze app to match drivers and commuters who work nearby everyday to share transportation. Its an effort to reduce traffic congestion on local highways and roadways as well as saving our natural environment.

The bad weather conditions today is impacting local airports arrival and departure flights throughout San Francisco Bay Area. The SFO (San Francisco International Airport) has cancelled dozens of flights, no flights cancelled at OAK (Oakland International Airport) and one flight cancelled at SJC (Mineta San Jose International Airport) during morning hours. Some cancellation flights are part of consolidation approach because of bad weather conditions in the Bay Area along with low passenger traffic.
