The MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) announced the debut opening of Express Lanes on Highway I-680 on Monday, October 9, 2018. The Highway I-680 carpool lanes between Walnut Creek and San Ramon will convert into Express Lanes allowing solo drivers to pay toll fees. The access to lanes will remain toll-free for carpool vehicles, buses, motorcycles, and clean air vehicles. The vehicles using Express Lanes on weekdays between 5 AM to 8 PM will require a properly mounted FasTrak toll device.

The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) reported this month approval of $20 million for contractual infrastructure projects. The improvement project funding is part of Measure B and Measure BB approved by local voters for transportation in previous elections. The East Bay local improvement projects include I-80/Ashby Interchange in Emeryville, I-880 Interchange at Whipple Road, and Industrial Parkway in Hayward. Including I-680 Sunol Northbound Express Lane Phase-2 in Pleasant and Fremont to help with traffic problems.
