The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) agency is temporarily closing some escalators for surveying and/or repairs effective Monday, May 11, 2020 to Monday, June 8, 2020. There will be only one escalator closed during each time and repair crews will have signs and/or barricade barriers for protection. The BART improvement project is part of replacing old and/or upgrading escalators within the systems in San Francisco. The repair crew survey measurements will provide necessary elements for new and improved escalators for the transit system.

The SamTrans transit agency cancels their annual artwork contest because of therein COVID-19 health crisis and art will not take a bus ride this year in West Bay. The SamTrans artwork contest every year is co-sponsored by San Mateo County Office of Education with an opportunity for artistic students. The transit agency contestants this year has been very low because of therein COVID-19 health pandemic and decided to cancel this year. The annual arts contest has been very popular with many contestants every year considering an opportunity for artistic students.

The GGBHTD (Golden Gate Bridge Highway & Transportation District) agency partners with an environmental artistic couple to commemorate Earth Day. The artistic couple, George and Donnalei Sumner artistically displayed a mural artwork of a whale on the Golden Gate Transit bus. The Golden Gate Transit bus artistic display is to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in San Francisco Bay Area. The bus will be traveling in North Bay to share the message of environmental protection within the Bay Area.

The WETA (Water Emergency Transportation Authority) agency received funding to build an electric zero-emission ferry in San Francisco Bay Area. The CalSTA (California State Transportation Agency) awarded WETA with $9 million for therein zero-emission transporting vessels in the Bay Area. The funding award will help WETA with the ferry infrastructure and transporting vessels consistency with environmental operating standards. Including a design and construction of the battery charging station at the shoreline of Mission Bay communities - first electric ferry for WETA.

The MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) approved and allocated COVID-19 federal stimulus funding for San Francisco Bay Area transit agencies. The MTC stimulus funding allocation is more than $780 million from CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security) Act of federal funds for transit agencies. The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) and BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) are the top two agencies receiving more stimulus funding. The first round of MTC stimulus funding distribution was based on each transit agencies operating budgets in the Bay Area.

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) agency is reaching out to engage small business for construction projects in San Francisco Bay Area. The BART agency and transit agencies in the Bay Area is receiving funding for improvement projects and needs help from small business. Because the COVID-19 health crisis has laid-off many employees and leading into closing some small business in the Bay Area. The BART agency is reaching out to revive therein small business contractors and rehire their employees to keep going forward.

The Caltrans and BATA (Bay Area Toll Authority) agency is suspending congestion pricing for San Francisco Bay Area toll bridges. The Caltrans state transportation agency operates the bridge highway systems and BATA administers the toll revenues of Bay Area regional bridges - various prices during daily traffic congestion times. The vehicular traffic in the Bay Area has been dropped including traffic congestion at toll bridges plaza for vehicles crossing the bay since COVID-19.

The SamTrans agency is adjusting some transit services because of low ridership levels in West Bay created by therein COVID-19 health crisis. The SamTrans is also requiring bus driving operators and passengers to wear face covering materials like other Bay Area transit agencies - effective Wednesday, April 22, 2020. It's consistent with San Francisco Bay Area counties public health advisory measures to stop the spread of therein COVID-19 virus disease.

The BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) agency has announced passengers are required to wear face coverings to stop the spread of COVID-19 in San Francisco Bay Area. The BART new requirement is consistent with Bay Area counties health advisory order in effect on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 - including transit buses and trains. The BART staffing will post signs on trains and local stations to remind commuting passengers and BART Police Officers will assist with verbal reminders. Including posting online with social media, BART website, platform digital signs, public announcements, etc.

The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) is modifying therein Core Service Plan by restoring some muni services effective Saturday, April 25, 2020 in West Bay. The SFMTA Core Service Plan was initially based on available resources and COVID-19 health pandemic impact in the Bay Area. The SFMTA transit will modify some muni routes because of more available resources, and driving operators to restore some services with increased frequency. The restoring muni services will help to have greater coverage throughout The City during the COVID-19 public health crisis.
