As we move into 2015, the iconic San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge will be closed on January 10-12, 2015 for traffic improvement project. A moveable median barrier will be installed on the bridge to replace pylons providing a safe and efficient lane system for ongoing traffic. The bridge district hopes for this safer system to avoid more traffic accidents on the landmark bridge, and accommodating many variable traffic demands during commuting hours. Golden Gate Transit buses will be allowed to cross the bridge and Golden Gate Ferry services will be expanded that weekend for people.

The MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) is sharing differential remarks on the Executive Director performance and other related activities. Some local agencies are urging for changes within MTC including changing the Executive Director, because the current Executive Director, Steve Heminger appears to disregard the public interest on transportation. The records show his international traveling activities include more expensive tickets and using local bridge toll fees for non-allowable activities.

The New Year celebrations are looming closely and San Francisco Bay Area public transportation agencies are offering free rides for passengers. SamTrans and other agencies are offering Sunday scheduling free rides including SamTrans handicap shuttles called Redi-Wheels, and some cab/taxi drivers joined this free ride effort for passengers during past holiday celebrations. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is also issuing "Spare The Air" days consistently, to environmentally save our natural air for our families and children to breathe during holiday celebrations.

The TSA (Transportation Security Administration) officials are encouraging passengers to leave all types of weapons home during their holiday traveling arrangements. Including illegal items that can become a weapon during passengers boarding process at airports to prevent stressful long lines and expediting the process. This approach is in place because of long lines at airports and trying to help passengers without any stressful situations at San Francisco Bay Area airports.

The red-light cameras in cities of San Francisco Bay Area are not helping public safety as it appears, and latest study by Texas A&M University indicates, it creates more rear ending collisions (22% increase) causing more roadway car accidents. Some San Francisco Bay Area cities have eliminated these falsified red-light cameras, and use public tax dollars on other meaningful aspects for public safety transportation. During last year approximately 55 California cities removed and ditched red-light cameras because of it's flawed system and way of operation.

The Southwest Airlines clipped it's wing during an attempt of departure at LaGuardia Airport in New York causing flight delays. Both Southwest Airlines and American Airlines got too close to each other creating the tangle and clipped off the tip of Southwest Airlines aircraft wing. No passengers were injured during the incident and some flights were delayed, and FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) is investigating the incident of what happened for safety matters.

The holiday season is here and traveling across the nation and international can be stressful for passengers at San Francisco Bay Area SFO (San Francisco International Airport). During pre-holiday traveling on Tuesday at SFO gets really hard because of long lines, and some people get really testy about waiting their turn, as well as anger with distracting negative behaviors start to appear. The long lines are getting longer and some passengers are inpatient waiting for the procedural process before boarding airline flights - approximately 100,000 travelers.

The restaurant workers at SFO (San Francisco International Airport) has been working without a current contract and had a two day strike during the latest stormy days in San Francisco Bay Area. Flights were delayed and cancelled due to recently bad weather conditions, and leaving some traveling passengers stranded at SFO without food to eat because some airport restaurants were closed and lacking services. The contractual hardship negotiating point is regarding health care costs for 5 years and causing a disagreement between both parties leading into a two day strike.

The award-winning YES Conference (Youth for the Environment and Sustainability) is scheduled for February 7, 2015 in Oakland, and gaining support from MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) and Bay Area Air Quality Management District. The conference is in place encouraging youth leadership students on learning from each other about our environment, and providing a presentation on how to save our natural environment, safety, and improving air quality within San Francisco Bay Area region.

The bridge design over Highway 101 for pedestrians and bicyclists in Palo Alto have been approved by a team of architectural experts. This project will cost $10 million connecting Southern Palo Alto, East Bayshore Business Park, Bay Trail, and Palo Alto Baylands. The proposed bridge design was through a contest and approved design is somewhat similar to the iconic Golden Gate Bridge rusty color with overarching loops. It will also have space for pedestrians and bicyclists to fix their bikes if necessary, and initial construction will begin sometime during 2017.
