A Bike Share program was launched August 2013 encouraging people to ride a bicycle to work and/or school to help save our environment and making it healthy for people. MTC (Metropolitan Transportation Commission) has been support of such effort and contributed financial support, and Bay Area Bicycle Coalition advocated for bike lanes in San Francisco and some geographical areas within San Francisco Bay Area.

The San Francisco MTA (Municipal Transportation Agency) has been criticized for lack of muni buses on timely scheduling for passengers. The SFMTA muni bus system will start its new "Muni Forward" upgrading system on April 25, 2015 with new service line displaying features as well as renaming other bus lines. This upgrading effort is to make it more responsive for passengers and avoiding crowded buses within the city muni bus line system. The muni routing map will be completely redesigned including rapid bus line networking system display in various colors.

The tracks for BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) in San Francisco Bay Area started improvement repairs yesterday and closed the tracks between Fruitvale and Coliseum stations. The BART track repairs will operate on Saturdays at 7 PM throughout all day on Sundays for some weekends, and repairs should be completed sometime in August 2015 for full train system operation. Some passengers understand and accept improvement changes for the BART tracks and some passengers feel the traveling hardship for them because of scheduling changes.

The Caltrain expansion capacity for passengers have been moving forward to purchase and refurbish railway trains because of increasing number of passengers onboard. Caltrain spent $5.6 million to purchase 16 railway train cars from Southern California at Metrolink, and hopefully will appropriately handle the increase ridership passengers onboard. The new purchased train cars will provide an extra train car to the current Caltrain cars with more seating capacity for passengers. The longer train cars will provide Caltrain with enough passenger capacity for at least 20% capacity increase.

A report reflecting possible improvement changes for the San Francisco Bay Area transit system provides "seamless transit" to improve transportation system within the bay area. The recent survey report is a vision by SPUR on improving services for public transportation, and building an easy transit systematic network within regional transportation areas.

The three highways mostly used by travelers from outside San Francisco Bay Area is Highway 80, Highway 17, and Highway 101 for the past decades. Because of many demographic and economical changes within the bay area including traveling time for people, working class people and commuters have to unfortunately experience tough traffic congestion on freeways. The recent survey reports indicate 587,000 cars travel within the regional highways from outside counties, identifying 34 percent increase since 1992 and continues to show more traffic problems.

Effective today, April 1, 2015 some San Francisco Bay Area cities will pay more taxes due to state legislation regarding statewide sales tax rates. The state sales tax rate is 7.5 percent and some cities and counties including Alameda and El Cerrito will pay 9.5 to 10 percent sales taxes. The local voters approved to add 2.5 percent sales tax and Alameda county approved a half-cent increase for 30 years. This initiative will help fund improvements for local transportation for people especially working class people.

The major airports in San Francisco Bay Area have been criticized for unsecured areas within short periods of time including safety for passengers and employees. A congressman from Dublin, California, sharing his concerns regarding ongoing breaching unsecured activities at major airports, because people illegally crossing over the secured fence area onto the airport. He serves on the House Transportation Subcommittee and mentioned on working closely with his congressional colleagues to ensure security of all major airports nationwide.

A lawsuit was filed by residents of San Carlos regarding traffic lanes development within their neighborhood, and a local judge has thrown the lawsuit case out. The City of San Carlos council members have voted to remove public parking along Holly Street to ease traffic congestion during weekdays from 7 AM to 6 PM. Local residents claim the city violated environmental laws and was requested to amend their lawsuit regarding the environmental violation.

The transportation system in San Francisco Bay Area is upgrading the transit system to become state-of-the-art with ongoing technical support. The last research studies indicate 1.25 million vehicles will enter into northern part of California's Bay Area between 2000 to 2030, and many people traveling within San Francisco Bay Area with a booming economy. Especially with San Francisco's Transbay Transit Center upon completion and extension of BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) to Silicon Valley along the Berryessa geographical area.
