The Caltrans (California Department of Transportation) state services agency in San Francisco Bay Area and statewide partners with local agencies to clean California. The Clean California initiative was launched in July 2021 by Caltrans, and Golden State local partnership agencies cleaned and removed 3.4 cubic yards of litter with trash statewide. The Caltrans Clean California efforts recruited more than 72,000+ community volunteers, and cleaning trash with litters from state highways and creating more jobs for local communities. Including homeless encampments removal within statewide at local communities, and provided referrals for resourceful sheltering agencies. The Clean California initiative provided artistic painting on local highways and beautifying statewide communities.
