ADJUSTING TRAFFIC LIGHTS TIME WITHIN SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

The SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) is changing the countdown timing on street traffic lights for pedestrian safety crossing. The motive is aligning therein safety traffic lights adjustment for the local Vision Zero city ordinance to protect pedestrians and bicyclists. The SFMTA is partnering with local agencies to avoid anymore traffic fatalities with therein positive policy changes. It will increase countdown time for pedestrians to cross the city streets especially seniors and disabled pedestrians. The state and federal standards for street crossing countdown timing varies between 2.5 to 3.5 feet per second. The effect of therein street crossing change is giving pedestrians more time to safely cross the city streets without problems.
