San Francisco Transportation Board Permitted Demand-Based Pricing on Parking Meters

The SFMTA board launched a new program that would use demand-based pricing at city parking meters. The program was approved by a unanimous vote which can increase pricing at some parking meters to up to $8 an hour. The program is created to ease the parking crunch of the city. There is a pilot program placed in the city which helps drivers to find their parking areas easily.

Andres Burgueno, A driver in SF, said, “We already get hit with parking tickets. Everything in this city is so crazy ... just to drive around and find a place to park. It's going to affect a lot of people.”

One major concern for the board is $8 per hour price. According to the board, the price is very high, it should be 25 cents per hour.
